Behind One Against the Dimming

In 2023, I wrote Whisker Warriors with my then-nine-year-old. He repeatedly expressed interest in creating a sequel.

Fast-forward to three years later. As a fan of Jonathan Stroud’s “Lockwood and Co.” series (which I highly recommend!), he came up with an entirely different book premise.

Soulless Saga Book One takes place in a post-Dimming world. This apocalypse caused the arrival of ghosts. After his parents embark on a mission to hunt ghosts and never return, he receives a visit and a letter from a mysterious woman, Fenn.

The letter mentions Bastion, a vertibal school-fortress where ghost hunters train. There, Khalid learns of an even deeper secret–of a soulless ghost–and a startling connection to his parents’ deaths.

The target audiance is children aged 9-12. I took great pains to ensure the vocabulary and reading level remain in that range! It was quite a (fun) challenge.
